Bob has been involved in remote sensing and GIS for more than 25 years. He is currently a Professor in the School of Forest Resources at the University of Arkansas and the Director of the Spatial Information Systems (SIS) Program and the Spatial Analysis Laboratory (SAL) at the school. His area of research is the development and application of Geographic Information Systems (GIS), Remote Sensing, Global Positioning Systems (GPS), and Expert Systems for Natural Resource Management.

Bob started his career as a Forest Technician for the USFS in Utah. Since then he has worked as an Assistant to the Highway Department Director for Coconino County Highway Department in Arizona, which is the second largest county in the United States; as a Natural Resource Information System Advisor for the FAO of the United Nations in GIS and remote sensing; as a Remote Sensing/GIS Consultant for the Center for Ecological Management of Military Lands, and the Department of the Army; and as a Forestry Program Manager and Senior Scientist at the NASA Space Remote Sensing Center at Stennis, Mississippi. At the Space Remote Sensing Center Bob was involved in the development of a multi-camera digital videography system and the development of a farm GIS for precision agriculture.

Bob is an Environmental Systems Research Institute (ESRI) authorized ArcGIS I, ArcGIS II, ArcGIS III and ArcGIS Spatial Analyst Instructor, and an Erdas authorized instructor. He has published more than 100 manuscripts on GIS, remote sensing, and GPS. Bob also received the Arkansas Forest Resource Center Leadership award in 2002 and Arkansas User Forum Excellence award in 2005 for geospatial research and education in the Spatial Analysis Laboratory. He received the Arkansas State Parks Director's Special Commendation in 2008 for is work with Arkansas State Parks.

Bob is actively involved with the Boy Scouts of America as the Committee Chairman for Monticello and is an Eagle Scout. He is married to Marilyn with three great children Melissa, Robby, and Jeremy.
