How We Got Where We Are - Who Got
Us Here and How?

The NASA funded KLS Project was not performed
in isolation in Kentucky. Several existing
digital geospatial data infrastructures
have been leveraged as well as the expertise
and cooperation of both KLS team members,
federal and state government employees.
We will also discuss the GIS architecture,
digital geospatial assets, and interagency
interfaces that were in place in KY and
necessary to enable the creation of tools
such as the Forest Plan GeoBook ® for
delivery of the Forest Stewardship Plans
to KY woodlot owners. Kentucky has an
unusually talented and active governmental
GIS community, albeit a nascent remote
sensing community. When the team was put
together - consideration was given to
both the pioneering spirit and the capabilities
of some of the members of the KY GIS community
who had a keen interest in becoming conversant
with remote sensing technologies to carry
out their mission mandates. We will discuss
the training components of the project,
as well as the methods we've employed
to ensure that a cadre of people is in
place after the project is over to proliferate
remote sensing capabilities in a peer-to-peer
setting.
